Navi’s Mashups

Ok, so sometimes I like steal daddy’s photos and tear dem up. When he founds me what I was doing, we had a long talk bout wastefulness and blah blah blah… so, to be less wasteful and more productive, I created some mash ups for him… basically, I take whatever photos I kin find, stuff them in muh diaper, and “mash dem up.” Yeah, sounds gross but I keeps out the brown ones. So, here’s some mashups for you!

Ok, so, I’ve been a Grits fan since like Junior High (many many years ago!), and this has been one of the few Christian groups that has kept my faith in good Christian music (because let’s face it, there was a time when Christian music was just sub-par). Well, I (finally) got a chance to check out the newest release from Grits, and let me tell you, this album is HOT!!!!

When it comes to Christian hip hop, this category seemed to be the one that suffered the most in terms of quality. It seems in more recent years, the overall quality of Christian hip hop has improved, and dare I say, gotten good! However, Grits is a veteran group to the good quality hip hop category.

Throughout the years, Grits has evolved with the times and musical trends while staying true to honoring God with their works. Whether rapping about life, love, or the way it is, their music portrays addictive and pulsating beats overlayed with significant and catchy lyrics that move the heart. Their latest album, Reiterate, is the icing on the cake in terms of all their releases. This album, some might say, is the pinnacle of quality Christian hip hop (but that’s clearly objective).

When you listen to their album the first time through, your ears become captivated by the variety of music pumping through the speakers. One thing I appreciate about Grits (and a few other Christian artists) is their portrayal of love songs in their mix. I understand the importance of having songs that speak about God and honor Him in praise, but the Christian life also involves love relationships just like everyone else in the world. And while the (hip hop/r&b) world typically portrays love in a negative or inappropriate ways, Grits fashions their love songs in real but God-relevant ways. Other songs on the album talk about life in a real way with purpose for change.

Grandma Goose isn’t Allowed to Teach Bible Lessons to the Grandkids

I called my mom tonight to chit-chat and tell her about my baby naming poll on my blog (Scroll down and vote). Knowing that my mother rarely gets online, I just told her the options that were on the poll. Well, when it got to Obadiah Jonas, she got excited cause she liked the name Jonas. Her EXACT words were “I’ve never heard the name Jonas before. Wait, isn’t that from the Bible, Jonas and Goliath?”

uhhh …

… soooooooooo, Grandma Goose is allowed to spoil her grandkids, but we (the parents) will be the ones teaching the Bible lessons. I shudder at the day my kids return from grandma’s house and tell me the story of how the Jonas Brothers slayed a giant with shredding guitar riffs and stabbing lyrics. Yikes!

Our First Viewing of A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Navi and I shared a special time sitting quietly in front of the TV watching “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” Mom was there too, but she was at the dinner table (and taking this rare moment of a picture; Navi never sits still with me). We would have watched it last year, but she wasn’t into TV last year. It was a nice start to a lifelong holiday tradition. Happy Thanksgiving!

This Halloween was Navi’s first, so we took her to the church Harvest Fest to play games and show off her cute Minnie Mouse outfit and get suckers. Needless to say, she hated her ears but loved the sweets and entertainment.

Recently, it seems as if my daughter has had a certain over zealous joy about her, and it really lights up our day and those she comes in contact with. Today, she, out of nowhere, started saying “HAPPY DAY!” (and it’s not cause Obama won; she’s a McCain girl and calls him papa). The point here is it is important and CRITICAL to be positive around your children and always talk to them (always), as it’s so crucial to their language development and their overall character. We’ve been blessed with a beautiful young girl!
